New York Story

Buongiorno! This hump day has been very kind to me. It gets good at the end of this post…

This day allowed me to first get a full 8 hours of sleep and wake up recharged and ready for a workout. Janetha, what have you to say about my handling in this picture:

sunbutter banana bfast

Sunbutter banana breakfast.

Hump day allowed me to knock things off my to-do list before my workout. Printer fee, peace out.

This day also brought a sweatfest of a workout! Lawd, was I a hot mess. I also worked a ton on my arms, and now that I’m focusing on my core as well while I perform the moves (thanks again, GC!), it feels so intense. And that’s what I am, yo.

Wednesday, unfortunately, brought a near fainting spell in choir. I don’t know what it was, but I had to sit down. I couldn’t have been happier when we were handed Halloween candy bags as we walked out the door. Sweet, sweet sugar:

dots save the day

My version of Shock Blocks or whatever they're called.

The middle of the week presented me with a fabulous opportunity to make a truly tasty lunch:

thanksgiving sand

Honeycrisp, cherry toms and a special sandwich.

The Thanksgiving sandwich was the star:

thanksgiving sand close

Please give this a whirl. Look at those glorious layers!

Layered on the thin, bottom up: TJ‘s cranberry apple butter, slices of butternut squash, Yves vegan turkey slices, spinach, more cranapple butter and mustard. Oh divinity. The butternut squash slices were easy- just cut some off the squash and popped them into the micro for 90 seconds.

Wednesday offered me the chance to wear an outfit I dig:

zipper leggings

Fave zipper leggings. Obviously took this at night πŸ™‚

My one class on this fine day taught me how to make my own Google map the right way. I really needed the help!

After my class, the day allowed enough time to visit Muffin for a couple hours at her office, and also to enjoy a snack:

snack essentials

Essentials. Fab song, too.

Once home again, Wednesday reminded me that sometimes I don’t want a “real” dinner. I’m really just a SnackFace:

peps n humm

Eaten with unpictured pretzel crisps!

The second course was even better:

geo squash and trio butter

Geometric butternut squash with a trio of butters.

Ohmigawd. Butternut squash is magical when dipped into cranberry apple, pumpkin and sunflower seed butters. Do this. Then eat some dark chocolate after. OK, you don’t have to do that, but I did.

The most important thing that this wonderful Wednesday brought to me, though? A definite signal as to where I’m headed next in this little journey called life.

Do you recall a few weeks ago when I had “appointments” while in NYC? Well, one of them turned out the way I’d hoped. Starting on November 23, I will be interning at Food Arts magazine in, that’s right, New York City. I’ll be joining the team until the beginning of January. I still cannot believe this.

In high school, I always had lofty dreams of being a single, working gal inΒ  New York. Didn’t we all? It’s so out-of-this world when you know it’s actually going to happen, though. Sure, it’s only six weeks. But hell, it’s SIX weeks in the city about which I’ve dreamed for years, working at a magazine that features my favorite thing ever. As I type this, I’m shaking my head in disbelief.

And then I noticed a little something to the right of my desk: my vision board. Over a year or so ago, when I was trying desperately to turn my life into a happy, healthy one (not that it was anything too tragic), I pasted this little phrase on my board of hope:

ny story

New York Story with the ultimate New Yorker.

The other phrases I layered were “share the love”, “rise and shine”, “stay healthy”, “happiness”, “blithe spirit” and “be fearless.” Every single day I try to remind myself of these things and exhibit them within myself. It’s not a religion, but it’s certainly powerful in my life.

Had I never become happy and healthy, created my blog, had many positive, beautiful readers and commenters sending out loving vibes into the universe and had a loyal New York reader with a connection, I don’t know if I’d ever be able to write my own New York story. But I’m endlessly thankful that I get to do so.

Ciao for now…and barrels of love,

P.S. My 9am class was canceled, so Muffin and I are going out to celebrate! Hollaaaa!

P.P.S. Megan S., you rock my world. THANK YOU!

  24. That is such exciting news and definitely something to be totally proud of. NYC is great and is spectacular that time of year (though I could do without the cold weather). You will probably even be there for the Christmas tree lighting! That’s a definite go to thing. Even though it’s ridiculously packed, it’s still pretty cool and fun and cliche. If you’re there for New Years though, don’t spend too much $$ on tickets for an open bar at a seedy place. NYE can get expensive, especially in the city, so make sure it’s worth it! Congratulations again!

  25. Hooray! I am so excited for you! I have a vision board too, and many of my visions are also coming to fruition…isn’t growing up crazy!?
