StudyFace Time

14Oct09

Hi kittens! It feels fabulous to return to regular food blogging! As much as I love recapping trips, I feel as though I miss the conversational tone we all enjoy. That being said, I’m so glad everyone liked the NYC trip. I’m still daydreaming about it!

I awoke this fine Tuesday morning to my alarm ringing, but couldn’t open my eyes. It wasn’t happening. This was the first time this quarter I’ve seriously contemplated skipping my 9am to 11 class. Feeling guilty for such negative thoughts, I plopped out of bed 15 minutes later than normal.

Making breakfast was all it took to wake me up. Pumpkin oats, much like everyone else, are back in my life. Today’s dimly lit bowl looked like zeese:

You can't really see that, can you?

You can't really see that, can you?

In today’s mix: 1/3 C oats, 1 C water, 1/2 C pumpkin, 1 scoop protein powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, agave, peanut butter and vegan carob chips. As tasty as this was, the carob was a little too much for me first thing in the morning. Yesterday’s bowl, however, wasn’t as complicated:

Gorgeous, if not slightly baby food-ish.

Gorgeous, if not slightly baby food-ish.

As I sat down to breakfast, I opened my Gmail only to find that my 9am class was canceled. While I could have been frustrated, I decided to enjoy my breakfast in a leisurely manner and then get to work. And by work I mean catching up on the latest episode of Glee. Hulu, thank you for supplying me with means to avoid studying for my Film midterm.

Eventually I showered to both wake and warm myself up. I had no idea what to wear today, but always trust my instinct. If a look is not already in my head, I take a gander through my closet and box of sweaters and go with the first thing that jumps out to me. Today was a look I’ve worn for at least four years now:

Juicy Couture ancient sweater, fave jeans, brown belt, brown boots and twists in ma hurr.

Juicy Couture ancient sweater, fave jeans, brown belt, brown boots and twists in ma hurr.

For booking it from class to class, I layered my brown bomber jacket and hot pink cashmere scarf on top. (The scarf is not vegan, but I got it years ago in Italia and adore it.)

I was so caught up in getting dressed and creating a Drake Pandora station that I had to throw together a random lunch. I literally grabbed and went:

Clif Peanut Toffee Buzz, Gala apple, carrots and Candy Cane Lane tea bag.

Clif Peanut Toffee Buzz, Gala apple, carrots and Candy Cane Lane tea bag.

Here’s a fun trick: put your tea bag in with your bag of carrots. The carrots are guaranteed to taste like whatever flavor tea you’ve selected. Mmmm candy cane carrots! I should have known better, but in all honesty, it was somewhat pleasant. Gingerbread tea is up next.

English class went well, mostly because our first exams were returned and I was pumped about the grade! I broke for lunch from 2pm to 3pm, and followed this with Film from 3 to 5. We watched His Girl Friday, which made me want to fall asleep only once. It also reminded me how sexy Cary Grant was.

I visited Muffin at work for an hour or so after class. I love being around the newsroom and listening to the drama and gossip. Perhaps that sounds juicier than it really is, but I do enjoy it.

When I made it home at 6:30pm I was starving! I had a light salad:

Acidic salad.

Acidic salad.

In the mix: baby greens, red bell pepper, salsa, banana peppers, balsamic vinaigrette and Parma! The best part of dinner was the microwaved sweet potato dressed as a hot dog:

Dressed with ketchup, mustard and a side of balls.

Decorated with ketchup, mustard and a side of balls.

You can click here if you’d like to see the balls’ packaging and why I love them so!

This was surprisingly filling. Well, for now. I know there will be a lot of SnackFacing when I’m wearing my StudyFace all night. I have a huge Film midterm Thursday, and I will be spending the next 48 hours with my notes and texts. Here I am, pissed at myself for procrastinating:

My usual sunny disposition, clearly.

My usual sunny disposition, clearly.

To power through something like 10 should-be-read-by-now chapters and many lectures, I foresee countless carob chips (vegan- bought them Monday!), banana chunks, Wasa’s, tea, pseudoephedrine (like the kids on Glee)…the usuals.

I hope everyone is having an amazing week thus far! I send my love!

Ciao for now,

Kailey

QUESTION:How do you choose what to wear for the day? AND Who is your favorite actor of yesteryear?

Weather normally is the largest factor in what I choose to wear (smart, right?), but sometimes I can’t get a ‘fit out of my head and roll with it, no matter the weather. My fave actor of yesteryear might be Gene Kelly after seeing Singin’ in the Rain again a few weeks ago.

Alright, STUDYFACE TIME!!!

  1. Totttallllyy makes my day that you love Glee, too! Everytime I speak of it to ANYONE, the looks I get would kill small children. I LOVE IT, OKAY. It’s amazing. So festive.

Favourite actor: Leonardo Dicaprio circa The Basketball Diaries
How I decide what to wear: check the weather, narrow down my selections, see what makes me look the most sassy. It’s a winning combination.

Also, this is random, but I wonder everytime I see the pictures of your room …do you live in a dorm? Or whassup? Is this creepy?

    • 2 snackface

Tamara – Hahaha I love this question–it’s not creepy. I live in a little house and the background is my lovely little room! My roomie has her own room and we share a kitchen, living room, bathroom and dungeon basement.

  2. i love drake. and i love pandora!! whoo ra!

  3. How to choose what to wear = how cold it is outside, haha. Gotta keep warm!

Favorite actor = Humphrey Bogart **swoons**

  4. Haha I DEFINITELY made a Drake pandora station! Love it!

Also love the SP weiner & balls action. (I’m disgusting.)

Weather is my numero uno factor in picking out an outfit–but I think I usually settle on at least one staple in advance. I’ll know that I want to wear leggings (bc they ARE pants)–and I’ll build an outfit around them.

PS I’ve been meaning to ask, what type of PB do you use? It always looks incred.

Good luck with ze studies, mi amor!

    • 6 snackface

The Foodie Diaries – Hello sugarplum! The PB I use is Trader Joes’ Organic Unsalted Crunchy. It only looks that good because I don’t refrigerate even though the label says I should. I think it will be gone before it would ever have a chance to spoil!

  5. omg that pic of you just made my day! i loved reading about the ny cray cray times. ahhh yall had so much fun!! wish i could have been there!!

  6. love the fashion posts! I’m a Miami girl living up in the cold world of…NC. okay not so cold but colder then I’m used to. I’m still trying to figure out the whole cold weather shoe thing. Any advice? What are good boots for everyday wear? I don’t see myself wearing high heels boots to school but i don’t know how I feel about flats. Suggestions? boot tutorial? all would be helpful!

    • 9 snackface

Red Head, Yello Dog – Ay boo! This boot tutorial is a great idea! Thank you! I’ll start to brainstorm about this πŸ™‚

  7. I love that sweater! I also go with the weather dictated outfits. Just makes sense! πŸ™‚

Audrey Hepburn is my favorite of all time.

  8. I heart Drake so much! And I’m seriously coveting your boots. I have a fab pair with heels but I’d love a flat pair so I can actually walk in them.

Favorite actor of yesteryear = Myrna Loy. Watch The Thin Man and try not to love her, I dare you.

    • 12 snackface

Daria – Oooh thanks for the suggestion! I’m going to have to look for The Thin Man over break!

  9. ummm, glee is the best. i sometimes go on hulu and see if there are any new videos – like anything with glee, obsessed!

loving that dinner salad – i haven’t had a huge salad in awhile and i am craving a good one. good luck studying for your midterm…at least film is something fun to study πŸ™‚

what do i choose to wear? sometimes its planned, sometimes its on the fly…just depends. my fave yesteryear actor is ALSO cary grant. singin’ in the rain is my fave movie ever, hence why i also love debbie reynolds. however, paul newman ranks high as does katharine hepburn.

  10. your pumpkin eats look picture perfect chica!

    jenna

  11. pandora rocks my face off
and you’re taking vitamin d, too?! it just makes me sing and dance so much better haha
    have a great night ❀

  12. Ketchup and mustard on my sweet potatoes is my fav too!

  13. I really like that Juicy sweater! Gotta keep that stuff for a long time cause its so damn expensive, right? I wear these ratty Juicy velour pants from like 8 years ago…because um I better get damn use out of them (or thats what my mom told me way back when). Anyway, I think you look gorgey in it!

I have a midterm on Thurs and I’m in the same boat. I pray for both of us.

Glad you’re back in the swangggg of foodblogging thangs! And thanks for the nice comment you left me πŸ˜€

    • 18 snackface

Amy – Aww, thanks for the compliments, love! And I was serious about my comment- if you need anything, I’m here!

  14. your dinner looks fabooosh
and I love love love your juicy sweater!

and yes, GLEE .. is amazing.

  15. haha i totes know what you mean about missing a good old fashioned food blog post. we food bloggies are strange girls, eh? loving the zig to the zag on your baby food. hahhhhhhahah.. that photo of you is rad. you look so unimpressed with studying. dont blame you! choosing what to wear usually ends up in a tornado unless i have it specifically planned out the night before. hence, my room is always a shitstorm. hope you are learning lots! love you!

  16. I love GLEE!!! And I have wanted to be Audrey Hepburn for as long as I can remember. I adore her!

Glad you are back too, honey πŸ˜‰

  17. I have work and school on the same days 5 to 6 days a week. So, my clothes have to be business casual. This is hard because I don’t want to look out of place on campus.

  18. Your oats look great and as much as I wanna love carob, it has it’s time and place. And I agree, not the a.m. Chocolate however, that’s a 24/7 food πŸ™‚

  19. You can’t beat Audrey Hepburn. CLASSIC. Definitely favorite actress of yesteryear, which, I think, also qualifies for actor if you want to follow the “politically correct” trend of actresses calling themselves actors.

    Good luck studying!

  20. I hate when you get up for class really not wanting to go only to find out it is canceled but i guess we should be thankful (?). Good luck with the studies but you will do super smarty pants! I usually think about what I want to wear the next day when i am trying to fall asleep or I run around like a crazy person the next morning trying on fifty outfits haha. Fave actor hmm would it be a really big clichΓ© to say Audrey Hepburn.. I love her!

    • 26 snackface

brianna – Sugar, thanks for the good luck! And Audrey Hepburn isn’t cliche, she’s classic!

  21. I decide what to wear by how cold it is! I can’t stand being cold even for a minute. I did have to wear a dress in 45* yesterday. My pants got stuck in the washer b/c it broke down in the middle of washing them, so I literally had NO pants! I was freezing!

But I love your sweater, and your hair. You are adorable!

    • 28 snackface

Shelby – You are too damn sweet! Thank you! I thought of doing a hair tutorial because I remembered that you asked how I get it to be wavy. And then I thought a tutorial would be too vain… haha!

  22. Yay Glee!! Just started watching it online a week or so ago and now I am obsessed as well.

I like Gregory Peck– he was very sexy– and also Judy Garland. Too bad she became such a mess later :-(.

  23. AHH singin in the rain is THE best!!! Sometimes i think about my outfit as i’m dozing off….then throw on yoga pants in a mad flurry in the AM. Good luck studying lil snackfacie!!

  24. You are such a better student than me, I totes skipped class yesterday after my weekend getaway! Get out of here with your gorgy self!! Love the outfit, love the hair!

Mmmm candy cane carrots! πŸ˜‰ However a REAL Mmmmm to all the carob chips! Why must they be so damn delish?! Good luck studying, boobear!

  25. 32 Lizzy

    Hey girl Hey! πŸ™‚
That outfit is so adore! I love talking about what to wear for the day, cause i go through the battle almost everyday! Of course weather is always a factor of what i put on, but sometimes what i REALLY want to wear is not weahter permitting and i just need to run with it. Usually i’m trying to decide when i’m drying my hair in the morning or in the shower! thehe. That sweater you have on really makes your face glow! i love it! Where did you get your brown boots??

I’m also lovin that huge azz salad you made girl! you know i love it! πŸ™‚

    ttyl!

    http://saladdiva.wordpress.com

  26. 33 Erin

Fav actor of yesteryear = James Stewart!!! I love him. Mr. Smith Goes to Washington is hands down the best movie ever. And he’s ridiculously handsome!

    Cute outfit πŸ™‚

  27. good luck on your midterms! as for outfits, I’m totally about intuition. not one for planning ahead. your sweater is adorable πŸ™‚

  28. 35 Little Bookworm

That salad and oatmeal looks great as does your outfit. Good luck with the midterm!

  29. outfits depend on weather first, for sure.

I LOVE Lucille Ball. I Love Lucy is one of my favorite shows of all time.

  30. Singing in the rain = my fave musical. i was a musical junkie/nerd when i was little and have the most random collection. let’s just say i attempted many a “good morning” dance in my heels as a child resulting in many a bruise and perhaps a concusion (sp?) or two. You and I my dear, should really be friends, haha

  31. props to you for not giving in to the sweet sweet temptation of skipping class – happens to the best of us.

my fav. actor of yesteryear = the guy on Global Guts.. don’t know if you could call him an actor — but I loved… “Back to you Mo!”

p.s. everything is better with a side of balls.. just stating the obvious

so much love, so so so much love gorgie!

  32. i LOVE glee.. and i’m going to miss it again tonight! i’ll need to play mayjah catch up on hulu
love the juicy sweater! they’re such a great investment- i have quite a few that have lasted for years
how do i decide what to wear? usually it’s whatever i crawled out of bed in until i have to leave the house for one reason or another πŸ˜‰
    have a great day!

  33. 40 lowandbhold

Love that outfit! I bet it was supah cute with the bomber.

I used to work in the newsroom through most of college and I loved the atmosphere too. So fast-paced!

I have to work in an office environment that is not fashion friendly. Some days I play with it anyways and have fun, but on other days I just wear whatever boring skirt or work pants are clean with an acceptable shirt and jacket. It’s depressing, I miss college and the self-expression that came with it.

Fave actor of yesteryear is def. an early Marlon Brando. He was tasty!

  34. LOVE the sweater!! Mucho cutsie.

  35. Haha Hulu totally kills me. Why must it be so convenient to watch all my shows instead of study??

What peanut butter do you use? I love how it’s all drizzly and runs over your oatmeal.

Hmm…it’s quite hard for me to choose what to wear. I definitely never plan out an entire outfit ahead of time, but sometimes I’ll have something in mind. I normally think about it while I’m putting my make-up on. Now that it’s fall I’m thinking “How do I look good and stay warm at the same time??”

  36. So I just downloaded “don’t stop believin'” by the glee crew!!! love love love it. already putting me in a good mood…and getting me ready to start my day after i finish this scrumptious bowl of oats. the usual! i still haven’t seen glee since i had that catch up marathon a few weekends ago, so i do need to catch last weeks’ episode ASAP!!! love all your glee refs!

that’s a precious outfit, and just screams fall!! i could use a cozy sweater right about now. temps are starting to drop and i do NOT have my warm clothes at zona with me at the moment. sort of a problem! i always base my outfits off of the weather, can’t be freezing all day just cuz’ i wanna wear a skirt, tank and sandals! ya know what i’m meannnnn?!

love your sweet potato- made hot dog din. sounds FANTASTIC right now….and yes, i just said fantastic πŸ™‚ love you boo!

  37. dayumm girl, those oats look anything but babyfood! pure perfection right there! and so pretty with the drizzle on top!

pandora is great, Its like they =know exactly what you want to hear and give it to you with no commercials or anything! fabulous.

hmm how do I choose what to wear? well I am an exercise specialist at a fitness center so I pretty much rotate trough my lululemon clothing each week! doesnt change much LOL…when its cold out though? I throw on whatever keeps me warm!!

have a great day!! πŸ™‚ good luck studyin!

  38. Love your blog!! Those oats looks like deliciousness! Have a super day πŸ™‚

    • 46 snackface

Abby – Thanks so much for stopping by and enjoying some snack face! It’s crazy because I just stumbled upon your blog yesterday! Love it!

  39. Heyy–I feel ya on the midterms! Geez, your class sounds much more exciting than my Financial Info for Life class–snore! Love the outfit btw, I love fall and winter to wear sweaters!! Yay πŸ™‚

btw, I thought I was the only one who likes ketchup/mustard on SP ha!

  40. 48 Grace

Honestly, I choose what to wear based on whatever is clean, whatever I happen to stumble into and whatever the weather is like that day… I’m so bad. I really need to get more organized so I can dress like a normal human being again.

Singin In The Rain is my most favorite movie EVER. Gene Kelly’s smile in that movie was swoon-worthy. He’s definitely one of my favorite “yesterday” actors… only a close second to Paul Newman. Favorite “yesteryear” actresses are Grace Kelly and Audrey Hepburn.

    • 49 snackface

Grace – OK, you were my saving grace today. I am not kidding. I was in the middle of my mid-term and one of the questions was: Who was the star of Singin’ in the Rain. I was having a huge brain fart and then remembered “OK, someone commented about this earlier…” And then your comment came to mind! I owe you! And your answer to how you decide what to wear was one of my favorites. Very refreshing πŸ™‚

  41. I just read through your Part 2 NYC recap, and loved it!! So much fun πŸ™‚

haha that’s really funny about the carrots-tea bag thing…maybe there’s a flavor out there that would actually be cool to try?

I basically choose based on weather and what my plans are for the day. On Mondays and Wednesdays, I know I’m going to strength train in the afternoon, so out of sheer laziness (aka not wanting to change when I get out of class) I might wear gym-like clothes…but on days when I do the gym before class, I’ll dress up a bit bc it’s fun πŸ™‚

  42. Currently drooling over your vegan chocolate cookie!! Delicious. .. dont worry about being spastic.. thats what bloggin is for πŸ™‚

    Have a super day!
